ChemCity’s purpose is to facilitate the establishment of small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in the chemical, energy and related industries by identifying business propositions and entrepreneurs (individuals and/or groups) and by assisting in the development of these projects and entrepreneurs into viable businesses.

ChemCity acts as a business incubator / business developer to facilitate the establishment of independent downstream small, medium and micro enterprises in the energy, chemical and related sectors as well as business in the supply chain and related environments.

By embarking on this, Sasol has aligned itself with certain key national strategies e.g.:

• Job creation
• IPAP (industrial policy action plan)
• Broad-based BEE
• Poverty alleviation through economic growth and entrepreneurship
• National growth plan

Since July 2004, a cumulative total of 262 SMMEs was established by Sasol ChemCity. This resulted in the creation of over 3000 jobs in this 6 year period.
