Three innovative MPhil Entrepreneurship students, Girlie Njoni, Corlia Joynt and Stephan Roodt, prepared a novel business plan for the production of tombstones from a bonding material that substitutes solid granite, to win the University of Pretoria's 2006 Business Plan competition and R10 000 in cash.

ChemCity provided LIFElab with support in the development of a liquid fermentation platform by donating redundant equipment to establish a biotechnology venture at the Umbogintwini site, just South of Durban. The
estimated value of the equipment is approximately R292 500.
