The ChemCity Cosmetic Technical Support Group was formed to provide specialised technical support for SMMEs within the cosmetic industry.

The team was initially structured with the intention of providing predominantly technical support. However, as the number of businesses being incubated increased and the needs of prospective entrepreneurs became more diverse, it was imperative that a more holistic approach be taken during the development of these SMMEs. This subsequently led to the inclusion of both technical and business support in the cluster’s service offering.

The team has diverse experience and expertise in different disciplines which contributes to its success. The cluster assists throughout the entire business development value chain:

• Concept development
• Formulation
• Performance testing
• Strategy and marketing strategy development
• Business plan writing and auditing
• Branding and labelling
• Obtaining funding.

The Cosmetic Technical Support Group enjoys the support of the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association of South Africa (CTFA) and is also associated with the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (Coschem). Other associations to which the cluster is affiliated include the IDC, DST and SEDA.
